A U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey aircraft caught fire after a hard landing during a training mission in North Carolina on Thursday. The incident occurred near the Bladen Lakes State Forest, with the aircraft having departed from Marine Corps Air Station New River.
According to a Marine Corps statement, all four personnel on board the Osprey were taken for medical evaluation after the incident. White Lake Fire Chief Dale Brennan reported that at least one Marine suffered burns and was transported to a nearby clinic.
Both civilian and military emergency crews responded to the scene, and the cause of the incident is currently under investigation. The incident occurred during scheduled training exercises at MCAS New River this week, which had been preceded by a notice from neighboring Camp Lejeune warning local residents to expect increased traffic delays, security measures, and emergency response activity.
The Marines have not released further details on the condition of the personnel involved or the extent of the damage to the aircraft.
