A juror who held out against a unanimous verdict in the case of Lindsay Clancy, a woman accused of murdering her three children, has retained a lawyer who previously represented former President Donald Trump.
Michael P. Desronvil, the lone holdout juror, has hired attorney Edward Paltzik to represent him. Paltzik has a history of high-profile cases, including representing Trump in a lawsuit against the New York Times and CBS.
Desronvil's decision to retain Paltzik suggests that he may be preparing to defend himself against criticism from others involved in the case. In a statement, Paltzik described Desronvil as an "American hero" and "Champion of justice."
The case against Clancy, 36, was declared a mistrial on September 4 after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Clancy is accused of murdering her children, ages 5, 3, and 8 months, in January 2023.
Paltzik's representation of Desronvil has sparked concerns about the potential impact on the jury system. Mark Astor, a former prosecutor and behavioral health law expert, said that Desronvil's decision to retain counsel may be a response to the scrutiny he has faced since the mistrial was declared.
Clancy is due back in court on September 29 for a status hearing, at which more information about the future of her case may be revealed.
