The Indiana Fever ended their regular season with a disappointing loss to the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx, falling 86-66 in the season finale. The Fever's chances of advancing in the playoffs took a hit with the loss, as they will now face the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, led by MVP candidate A'ja Wilson, in the first round.
The Lynx dominated the game from start to finish, with the Fever trailing by as many as 30 points in the third quarter. Indiana's star player, Caitlin Clark, struggled mightily, posting a career-worst two points on 1-of-12 shooting in 18 minutes of action. Clark had been just 11 points shy of reaching 900 points in a single season, but fell short of the milestone.
The Fever's loss was compounded by injuries to starting center Aliyah Boston, who was ruled out with a right lower leg injury, and guard Ty Harris, who was carried off the court. On a more positive note, Indiana's Kelsey Mitchell broke the single-season three-pointer record, hitting her 135th shot of the season to surpass Rhyne Howard's mark.
The loss marked a reversal of fortune for the Fever, who had handed the Lynx their largest deficit of the season just two days earlier. Minnesota was shorthanded for a second consecutive game, with rookie sensation Olivia Miles out again with a calf injury.
The WNBA postseason begins on Sunday, with the Fever looking to regroup and make a deep run in the playoffs.
