A person died after falling from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park on Monday, according to the Cobb County Police Department.
The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. and resulted in one fatality, with several other people reported injured. The police department did not immediately provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Six Flags released a statement expressing their condolences to the victim's family, friends, and loved ones. "We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today," the statement read. "Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest's family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected."
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with one witness telling a local station that the victim appeared in their souvenir photo as he fell. The Goliath roller coaster, which reaches speeds of up to 70 mph and has a peak elevation of 200 feet, stopped moving after the incident, leaving passengers stuck on the track until emergency crews evacuated them.
