Rabbi Steve Leder, a technical advisor on the Netflix series "Nobody Wants This," has criticized actor Adam Brody for his comments on the situation in Gaza. In an Instagram video, Leder expressed his disappointment and frustration with Brody's statement, calling it "ignorant" and "flippant."
Brody, who plays a rabbi in the series, recently suggested in an interview with GQ magazine that Israel is committing "genocide" in Gaza. Leder, who was responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the show's portrayal of Judaism, took issue with Brody's use of the term "genocide." He argued that Brody had mischaracterized the situation in Gaza and failed to mention other instances of genocide around the world.
Leder's criticism was echoed by Rabbi Yaakov Menken, executive vice president of the Coalition for Jewish Values. Menken called Brody's comments "ignorant" and suggested that they were similar to the kind of rhetoric often used by antisemites. Menken also pointed out that Hamas, the militant group controlling Gaza, has the ability to end the conflict by releasing hostages, but has chosen not to do so.
The Israeli-American Council also expressed its revulsion at Brody's statement, calling it "ignorant and harmful." The organization warned that lies like Brody's can incite violence and lead to the murder of innocent Jews.
