No. 3 Notre Dame continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 27-10 victory over Michigan State on Saturday night in South Bend. Quarterback CJ Carr led the Fighting Irish's offense, completing 18 of 24 passes for 234 yards and adding a three-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Notre Dame's defense played a key role in the win, limiting Michigan State to 167 total yards and forcing two turnovers. The Spartans' quarterback, Alessio Milivojevic, was intercepted twice, by Adon Shuler and Luke Talich. The Fighting Irish built a 10-0 first-quarter lead behind a Spencer Porath field goal and a two-yard touchdown run by Nolan James Jr.
Michigan State managed to cut the deficit to seven points before Aneyas Williams restored Notre Dame's two-touchdown advantage late in the first half. Cam Fancher scored the Spartans' only touchdown on a 15-yard run, but they were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Notre Dame improved to 3-0 with the win, while Michigan State suffered its first loss and fell to 2-1. The Fighting Irish's victory marks another strong performance by the team, which has yet to lose a game this season.
The game was largely one-sided, with Notre Dame controlling the tempo and dictating the pace of play. The team's defense was particularly impressive, shutting down the Michigan State offense and limiting their scoring opportunities.
