A passenger flight in Iran descended into chaos on Tuesday after the plane experienced sudden and violent shaking, causing the cabin to disintegrate and ceiling panels to collapse onto passengers.
The incident occurred on a Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 flight that was traveling from Mashhad to Kermanshah. According to reports, the aircraft may have suffered engine damage and a tire blowout during takeoff, which could have contributed to the violent shaking.
During the chaos, passengers were heard screaming and praying as they tried to protect themselves from the falling debris. The plane's pilot declared an emergency landing and returned to Mashhad Hashemi Nejad International Airport, where the aircraft landed safely.
No injuries were reported among the 127 passengers and crew members on board. However, the incident did cause the temporary closure of one of the airport's two runways. An investigation into the incident is underway.
The incident has highlighted the challenges faced by Iran's aviation industry, which has been struggling to access newer Western-built aircraft and modern upgrades due to decades of international sanctions. As a result, local carriers have been forced to rely on aging aircraft while completing complex maintenance on their fleets.
