The San Diego Padres' season came to a close on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park. The defeat marked the end of the Padres' postseason run, which was ultimately derailed by a struggling offense.

In Game 4, the Padres showed brief signs of life in the third inning, when Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run to tie the game 1-1. However, this momentum was short-lived, as the team's offense went cold for the remainder of the game. The Brewers' reliever Aaron Ashby played a key role in stifling the Padres' bats, pitching three hitless innings to keep the score tied.

The decisive blow came in the eighth inning, when Manny Machado launched a deep fly ball to center field. However, Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell was able to track down the ball and make a spectacular leaping catch at the warning track, robbing Machado of a potential game-tying two-run homer.

The game ultimately ended with a 3-1 Brewers victory, as Trevor Megill struck out the side in the ninth inning to seal the win. The loss sends the Padres packing, while the Brewers advance to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.
