Elijah Hemingway, 32, is now facing additional charges, including rape, sexual assault, and robbery, in connection with a separate incident that occurred just hours before he allegedly killed a Pittsburgh pediatrician and critically injured his wife during a home invasion.

According to the Allegheny County Police Department, Hemingway allegedly ambushed a woman as she was walking along a path in Wilkinsburg on Wednesday morning. The police report states that Hemingway then stole the woman's cell phone during the incident, which occurred just hours before the home invasion in Edgewood, Pennsylvania.

The woman, who did not know Hemingway before the alleged assault, did not report the incident to police immediately. However, after Wilkinsburg police notified Allegheny County detectives, they launched an investigation into the alleged sexual assault, which was conducted in conjunction with the homicide case.

Detectives recovered evidence linking Hemingway to the alleged assault, including the victim's cell phone, which was reported stolen during the incident. Following a consultation with the district attorney's office, county police filed additional charges against Hemingway.

Hemingway is already facing seven charges in connection with the Thursday attack, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and trespassing. He was released without bail in July in connection with a February burglary, according to court records.
