Police body camera footage has been released showing the moments leading up to a carjacking suspect being shot by officers in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

On May 7 at around 9 p.m., police responded to a report of a hit-and-run on North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue in Glen Burnie. When they arrived, they learned that a woman had crashed her car into another vehicle before taking the vehicle of a family member who had come to assist her. The suspect, identified as Jasmin L. Cooper, 28, was later located inside the vehicle on the 8500 block of Severn.

According to the footage, officers can be seen pointing their guns at Cooper, yelling at her to "turn the car off" and "get out of the car." At one point, she raises her hands from the wheel, but she does not exit the vehicle. Cooper eventually sped away, striking an officer, two patrol cars, and another vehicle.

Police said Cooper continued to drive recklessly, eventually crashing into another car on Reece Road and Telegraph Road and attempting to break into an occupied vehicle. Officers apprehended her, and she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The officer who was struck by Cooper was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Cooper has been charged with carjacking, attempted carjacking, multiple counts of reckless endangerment, first- and second-degree assault, and related charges. The released footage shows Cooper lying on the ground in handcuffs, as well as officers bandaging her wound after she was shot in the parking lot.
