A woman's late-night Uber ride took an alarming turn when her driver asked to stop at a parking garage to charge his electric vehicle, prompting her to question the driver's intentions.

According to a TikTok video posted by the woman, the driver claimed the vehicle was at 43% charge and that they were about 25 minutes from home. However, the driver then missed an exit, causing the woman to become increasingly concerned about their destination.

The woman can be heard telling the driver in the video, "I don't want to get into a random parking lot with you. You also just missed the exit." She ultimately ended the trip and contacted police.

Uber investigated the incident and took action, according to a statement from the company. An Uber spokesperson said, "Everyone deserves to feel safe and comfortable when using the Uber platform. We have investigated this report and taken appropriate action."

The incident has raised broader questions about what passengers can do if they feel uneasy during a rideshare trip. Rideshare safety experts point out that unexpected changes in route can quickly raise concerns, particularly for solo travelers late at night.

Dillon Abend, the founder and CEO of rideshare safety app 3rd-i, noted that passengers often hesitate to seek help due to concerns about the driver's reaction. Abend recommends that passengers share their location with trusted individuals and use safety features available through the app, such as an emergency button and GPS tracking.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of verifying the identity of the driver and the vehicle before entering a rideshare vehicle. Experts recommend checking the license plate and confirming that the driver and vehicle match the information displayed in the app.
