At least three people are dead and another is hospitalized after a helicopter crashed in a commercial area of Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, 56 firefighters responded to the scene, which was between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth, just before 7 p.m. LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman stated that the aircraft appeared to be a news helicopter, but did not confirm which outlet it was affiliated with.
Four people were assessed at the scene, with three pronounced dead and a fourth transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. One of the victims was a pedestrian in the parking lot, according to Silverman. Authorities have not yet said whether the other victims were aboard the helicopter or on the ground.
The crash sparked a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers before firefighters extinguished the flames. No nearby structures were exposed to the fire. The cause of the crash and the number of people on board the helicopter at the time of the incident are still unknown.
The incident is currently under investigation by authorities, and further details are expected to be released as more information becomes available.
