Hasan Piker, a Twitch streamer and progressive commentator, has acknowledged that he has toned down his commentary in recent times due to backlash from the public and Democratic figures.

In an interview with "Pod Save America" co-host Jon Lovett, Piker discussed the controversy surrounding his past statements, including a recent interview with Axios in which he compared the United States to al-Qaeda on terrorism. Piker claimed that many of his comments are taken out of context or extracted from longer statements, but admitted that he has begun to think more carefully about what he says and has deliberately dialed down his rhetoric.

Piker also stated that he has faced challenges in balancing his desire to express his opinions honestly with the need to present a more palatable image to the public. He acknowledged that his comments have been perceived as antagonistic to those in positions of power, and that he has made a conscious effort to tone down his commentary in response to this criticism.

Piker did not specify which opinions he has softened, but suggested that the backlash against him is partly due to the fact that Republicans lack a compelling midterm message. He also defended himself against criticism from some Democratic figures, who have distanced themselves from him due to his past comments, which some have deemed deplorable.

Piker has been a prominent figure in Democratic campaigns, including one for Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who has since attempted to distance himself from Piker. Other Democratic figures, including the Democratic National Committee Chair, have also criticized Piker's comments and distanced themselves from him.
