A 72-year-old woman, Mary Beth Granbery, was found alive on October 4 after a multi-day search in Northern California. Granbery, a resident of Mount Shasta, had departed for a camping trip on September 28 and was expected to return by October 1. When she failed to show up for work on October 2, concerned family members reported her missing.

A search effort was launched, with the Siskiyou and Shasta County Sheriff's Offices working together to locate the missing hiker. On October 3, family members located Granbery's camper van at the Cabin Creek Trailhead in Shasta County, prompting a renewed search of the area. Ground crews eventually found Granbery near Cabin Creek, but she was seriously injured after falling down a steep embankment.

Granbery's injuries included a severe knee injury, and she showed signs of exposure and disorientation when rescuers reached her. Due to the difficulty of the terrain, California Highway Patrol Air Operations assisted in airlifting her out of the area. A helicopter crew hoisted Granbery from the trail and flew her to a nearby landing zone, where she was transferred to an air ambulance.

Granbery was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment, where she was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials thanked the search and rescue teams, law enforcement, and Granbery's family and friends for their roles in the search and rescue effort.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and preparation when engaging in outdoor activities, particularly for those with limited experience or physical abilities.
