A Texas Air National Guard pilot was forced to eject from an F-16 fighter jet during a training mission in Michigan, officials said. The incident occurred seven miles south of Grand Traverse, Michigan, when the pilot was flying a routine training mission with the 149th Fighter Wing based at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The pilot ejected safely before the crash, and is currently in stable condition, according to officials. No further information has been disclosed about the cause of the crash or the pilot's identity.

Local authorities have taken precautions in response to the incident, with the Grand Traverse Emergency Management Agency ordering everyone within a mile of the crash site to evacuate the area. The agency instructed people to follow instructions from emergency personnel.

U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., has commented on the incident, stating that he is aware of the plane crash and is closely monitoring the situation. He expressed concern for the pilot and those on the ground, and is seeking more information about the incident.
