President Donald Trump campaigned in Syracuse, New York, on behalf of Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for the state's gubernatorial election. Trump was joined on stage by Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champion of the world, who had visited the White House earlier in the day and traveled to Syracuse on Air Force One with the president.

During his speech, Trump jokingly referred to Tyson as Bruce Blakeman's personal security, saying "Bruce wants a little protection, he's got the right guy. Bruce knows who to stand near." Trump also praised Tyson's physical stature and fighting prowess, saying "He was a very dangerous person actually, and he was one of the greatest fighters in history."

Tyson was later brought on stage, where he thanked Trump for the opportunity to attend the rally and praised the president's leadership. Trump returned the compliment, saying "I watched him get in the ring many times. He was a scary guy. I think he looks better now than he did 30 years ago."

The rally came on the eve of Blakeman's bid to unseat incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul, who has held the office since August 2021. Trump's visit to Syracuse was originally intended to coincide with the Alabama-Georgia game in Tuscaloosa, but Hurricane Isaias forced the president to reschedule his plans.

The rally also featured New York Yankees president Randy Levine, who was in attendance despite the team's recent postseason loss. Trump joked that the loss was of little consequence, given his own track record of success.
