Democratic Senators Elissa Slotkin and Jacky Rosen have condemned comments made by left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, who suggested that Jewish Americans will face consequences for their views on Israel.
In a recent livestream, Piker stated that "if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews." Slotkin and Rosen responded to Piker's comments, with Slotkin calling them "blaming the victims of violence for bringing it on themselves only further endangers people."
Slotkin, who is considered a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election, emphasized that "no community should face the threat of violence for their political views. Period." She also noted that such comments are part of a larger phenomenon of the normalization of political violence, which has been on the rise in recent months. Slotkin pointed to a nearly deadly anti-Semitic mass violence incident that occurred at Temple Israel in Michigan six months ago as an example of the dangers of such rhetoric.
Rosen also weighed in on Piker's comments, calling them "a new low." She blasted Piker for "trafficking in antisemitic tropes" and for providing an excuse for those perpetuating anti-Jewish hate crimes. Rosen emphasized that crimes against Jews for being Jews are "antisemitism plain and simple" and that there is no excuse for such violence.
Piker has faced criticism from politicians across the aisle, including fellow Democrats, for his history of making controversial comments. While some politicians have distanced themselves from Piker, he has yet to respond to the latest criticism.
