The Philadelphia Flyers staged a lighthearted protest before their preseason game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, with most of the team taking to the ice with the backs of their jerseys tucked into their pants. This was in solidarity with teammate Trevor Zegras, who was penalized for the same infraction in their previous game against the Boston Bruins.

The league has been enforcing the proper use of equipment, including visors, neckguards, and cut-proof gear, but has also been cracking down on players who tuck their jerseys into their pants. Zegras' teammates, including the team's mascot Gritty, got in on the protest, with some of them sharing photos of themselves playing youth hockey with their jerseys tucked in.

Zegras himself had previously taken to social media to show that tucking in one's jersey is a long-standing tradition in youth hockey. However, it seems unlikely that this will change the officials' minds, and Zegras will likely have to get used to the sensation of his sweater flapping in the breeze.

The protest, however, did not seem to have much of an impact on the game itself, as the Flyers went on to lose 5-1 to the Capitals. The team's preseason record now stands at 1-3, but the regular season is set to begin on Wednesday night against their arch-rival Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Flyers' first game that counts is just around the corner, and they will be looking to put their preseason struggles behind them.
