US Marine Veteran Returns Home After 1,660 Days in Russian Custody

Robert Gilman, a US Marine veteran, has finally returned home after more than four years in Russian custody. However, his family and representatives are warning that the ordeal is far from over due to his deteriorated health.

According to Kieran Ramsey, a representative for the Gilman family, the 41-year-old is "very frail" after being released on Tuesday. He was unable to walk off the plane on his own and will require extensive care, including mental and psychological treatment, as well as physical and dental care, in the coming weeks.

Gilman's case has been widely criticized, with allegations of physical torture, forced medication, and provocations by the Russian government. Massachusetts Democratic Senator Ed Markey, who worked on Gilman's case, stated that Russia was responsible for the mistreatment, although more details about his condition remain unknown.

Ramsey characterized Gilman's experience as a "1,600-day nightmare" and urged officials to bring any remaining Americans home. He pointed to the cases of fellow Marine veterans Trevor Reed and Paul Whelan as examples, noting that Russia often targets Americans with false charges and then piles on additional charges once they are in custody.

Ramsey also expressed hope that President Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff will work to free those who remain overseas, including at least ten other Americans, five of whom his firm represents.
