Steady rain in Cleveland has forced Major League Baseball to postpone Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays. The grounds crew was unable to prepare the stadium for the scheduled 8 p.m. ET first pitch and instead worked to salvage the game, but ultimately the league announced the postponement at approximately 9 p.m. ET.

The postponed game will now be played on Saturday, while Game 5, which was previously scheduled for Sunday, will now take place on the same day, eliminating the scheduled off day and travel day for the teams. The Guardians and Rays will play four games in four days if the series goes to a decisive Game 7, with Games 6 and 7 already scheduled for consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday.

In a statement acknowledging the inclement weather, the Guardians also announced that tickets purchased for Friday night's game will be honored for the rescheduled Game 5 on Sunday. Fans with tickets to the original ALCS Game 4 on Friday, October 16, may use those same tickets for ALCS Game 5 on Sunday, October 18 at 5:00 p.m. ET, with gates opening at 2:30 p.m. ET.

It had been nearly four years since rain forced a postseason game to be rescheduled, with the previous rainout occurring on Halloween in 2022, when Game 3 of the World Series between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies was pushed to the following day.
