The US State Department has announced that more than 175,000 visas have been revoked during President Donald Trump's administration so far.

According to a statement released by the department on Monday, the majority of these revocations were due to law enforcement encounters for various criminal activities. The leading causes included assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug crimes. A significant number of visas were also revoked for reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, embezzlement, and other crimes.

The department cited several examples of individuals whose visas were revoked due to serious offenses. These include a foreign national charged with felony rape and sexual battery, including against a victim who was mentally disabled, as well as another individual accused of felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and the sexual exploitation of a minor.

In addition to these cases, the department highlighted the issue of birth tourism, where foreign nationals travel to the US primarily to give birth so their children can obtain American citizenship. The US embassy in North Africa revoked over 100 visas for such "birth tourist" parents, according to the department.

The State Department has stated that it will continue to identify and revoke the visas of foreign nationals who threaten the safety of the American people. A spokesperson emphasized that a US visa is a privilege, not a right, and that the department remains committed to protecting communities from those who abuse this privilege.
